Happy birthday Mummy! McCall 7630

My mother just celebrated a milestone birthday-the big 60.  My kummy looks great for hr age and I hope I look just as good as she does when I hit 60.  Mummy’s falls the day after New Year.  Even in the womb my mother was brilliant. She was smart enough to ensure her birthday did not fall on a major holiday.

Unfortunately it rained all day and we didn’t do much.  She did not want to go outside and I don’t blame her.  So this weekend we will celebrate.  I decided to make her a top as one of the many presents I gave her for her big day.  A few months ago I purchased this gorgeous fabric from Fabric Mart.  This fabric is a black/Ivory Floral Print 100% Polyester Crinkle Charmeuse 52W and it was super easy to sew.

My mom is but I told her that she could not have it.  I knew I was going to make something for her with this fabric. I just couldn’t figure out what to make.  Then I found this pattern, McCall 7630, in my stash.  My mom loves large sleeves so I decided to make View D.  Plus View D of this pattern would show off this beautiful fabric.

This pattern did not take long to make.  From pattern cutting to final hemming only took a few hours.

After making this pattern for my mom I know I have to make one for myself.
Sleeve—isn’t this gorgeous!

Too Cute!

Modification:  I made some modifications to the pattern. I decided to add a back slit and a cute button in the back.

BUTTON DETAIL:  Have to love a cute button.

This was a great make. My mummy has not worn this top yet so I will try to post a photo of her wearing it. Next on my list... UFO items and some more of my Fall makes.

Happy Sewing!

Gray and Pink Floral Wrap Peplum--McCall 7602

McCall 7602 is a great pattern.  It is a self lined mock wrap top with cup sizing

I was not sure what size to cut.  This is my first time making a woven top so I was a little apprehensive about the fitting. I did not have time to make a muslin so I had to figure everything out the first time around.
I started with a size 18 neckline and armhole and cut the remainder of the top a size 22.  The dart was moved down an inch

I made a huge mistake while cutting the fabric.  Somehow I cut the ruffle on the wrong side of the fabric. I didn't realize until it was time to attach the ruffle.  After freaking out, I decided to put the ruffle on the left side.  Will it make a huge different?  Only people in the sewing world will notice. I hope!  But the average Sue walking down the street will not know the difference.  So I guess I can live with it.

Sewing Pattern Review
Pattern Description:
Close fitting mock wrap top has peplum and flounce options. B: Contrast right upper front, straps and lower left and back peplum. D: Contrast flounce, lower right and back peplum. Includes separate pattern pieces for A/B, C and D cup sizes.

Pattern Sizing:
14 to 20 and cup sizing

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
I made a mistake while cutting the fabric. My flounce is on the wrong side. Other than that it looks exactly the same.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Most of the directions were easy to follow.  I had some trouble attaching the ruffle side of the wrap.  I managed.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
I love this pattern!  There is really nothing to dislike about this pattern.  I am not fond of the self lining. There were several occasions where I couldn't figure which side I was working on,  The peplum could be fuller.

Fabric Used:
Blended cotton

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I did not make any alterations to this pattern. Next time I will make the peplum and ruffle fuller
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I do recommend this pattern.  I want to make This pattern again in a Challis.

Conclusion:
I cut a size 18 neckline and armhole and grade up to size 20 from the bust line. This is a super cut summer blouse.  I was thinking about making this view again and doubling the flounce.  I also want to make View A.  I would also like to move the zipper from the back to the side.  I want to figure out a way to make the peplum fuller.  Oh I almost forgot the armhole is huge. Next time I will select a smaller armhole.  Due to the huge armhole, I have to wear an undershirt. I was originally going to make View D but forgot to cut the front flounce so I ended up with View C.  I am happy with my top.

This is my first time working with a pattern that has cup sizing.  I moved down the bust dart about 1.5 inches.
Next time I will cut a size 18 neckline and do a full bust adjustment.  I will also have to adjust the armhole.

15 Minutes of Sewing
This blouse was my 15 minutes of sewing project.  Next up is a pair of Burda shorts. This is not from my original Summer Sewing Plan.  My son asked me to make him a pair of shorts.  I am going to make a muslin and then cut into my fashion fabric.

Progress Report:
Simplicity 8383-I made it!  Yes.  It's cute!  Until I burned it.  Stay tune for my next post.

Skirt Fit-a-long:  I am working on Week 2. My pattern is cut and muslin fabric cut. Next up is putting it together and fitting.

Tween Series:  My eldest daughter has cut out the  muslin fabric and hand basted her garment.  Unfortunately, it's too small.  So we're starting over.

Summer Sewing Plan: 8 items left on my sewing plan.  I'm almost there.  Woohoo!

Tye Dye Stripe Top Kwik Sew 4207

Happy Thursday!
I have a lot going on this week.  I was frustrated with Simplicity 1382 and need a quick project to bring up my spirits.

I'm not sure why this is picture is upside down.

At least you can see my fashion fabric.

I had to figure out how to cut out all of the pieces with only one yard of fabric and manage to match stripes. 😂

What's a girl to do but to figure out a way to make this top with ONE yard of fabric

I had to remove about an inch from the sleeves.  I ran out of fabric.

Joann's was running a sale on Remnants.  I plan less than $1.25 !  Woohoo!
I knew that this fabric would make an adorable top.   It wasn't until I made it home that I realized this patter yards of fabric for my size

Since this is a knit top but I decided not to do a full bust adjustment  but instead cut a size large neckline shoulder seam and armhole and grade it up to a size extra large from my bust area all the way down.

After daydreaming about this topic for at least two days I'm glad that I finally have it. This project did not take long to make I was able to cut it and have it completely song and I am about 2 1/2 hours I'm I did have some trouble with the neckline with the neck binding

So I cut a size large for the neckline the alarm hole in the shoulders and cut and extra-large for the bar area and then graded back down to an edge to a large for the remainder of my top now that I have this beautiful top the next time I make this pattern I need to at least 3 inches maybe 4 inches to the length of it and also then

My first time sewing with twin needles.  I thought it would be cute to sew with white and blue thread.  Now I'm thinking that was not a great idea.  But it's different!  I have to admit, the twin needles makes this top look professionally done.

***Next time***
Add about 2 to 4 inches to the length of my top and when I will next time I will come see you about grading down a little bit more this top is intended to be fit it in my top is not faded at all I'm which is good and bad there's some areas where I don't want fitted but yeah there's some areas that I do I still love my top and it now but this was definitely an opportunity I realize that I need to continue to practice installing the neck finding that actually drove me crazy I did I had to remove the neck binding and reinstalled again and And then the second time I installed it it's the little wonky but it's good will I wear this top of course I will

Sewing Pattern Review

Pattern Description:
Close-fitting, pullover tops have scoop neckline with neck binding and stitched hems. A: Patch pocket. B: Cold shoulder sleeve.

Pattern Sizing:
XS to XL

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes it does

Were the instructions easy to follow?
The directions were very easy to follow.  I love how the pattern goes into detail about the steps to take with knit fabrics.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
There's nothing to dislike.

Fabric Used:
Tye Dye Knit

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
I shorten the sleeve by an inch (I ran out of fabric).  I am glad I shorten it by an inch because it would have been way to long.  Everything happens for a reason.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
Yes! Yes! Yes!  This pattern has two sleeve options.  You can make a classic shirt with standard sleeves, which will never go out of style.  Or you can make the cold shoulder sleeve which is in this season.  If you haven't made this top yet what are you waiting for.

Conclusion:
I am going to make one more top in a solid color and then one for my oldest daughter.  When I made this top I cut the neckline and armhole in a Large, a bust in a Extra Large, and the waistline in a Large.

Fluttering --Mimi G Top

Impulsive [im-puhl-siv]: actuated or swayed by emotional or involuntary impulses

Impulsive sewing is that a thing? If so, I am probably the leader of the pack.  I was shopping the other day and found a cute pair of loose pants.  I mean just gorgeous and so I had to find just the right blouse for it.  The first image that came to my mind was Mimi G's flutter top.

That night, I looked up Mimi G's Tutorial  on YouTube. I could not sleep until I made this top.  I was obsessed I tell you!!!   It took about an hour and a half to make.  Not bad!

  Pattern Review

Pattern Description:

Exposed shoulder flutter top

Pattern Sizing:

Made to fit your measurements.  That's the create thing about sewing!!!

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

No envelope-I used a video tutorial by Mimi G.  It looks just like the picture she posted on her blog.

Were the instructions easy to follow?
Mimi G did an awesome job with the instruction (on the video tutorial).

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

There is nothing to dislike about the pattern.

Fabric Used:

White knit that I bought at Joanns

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I added an inch to the flutter.  It is not noticeable because I am busty.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes I would recommend this to others.  I just cut out the fabric to make another top like this.

Conclusion:
I was kind of lost towards the end of the video.  I was not sure how the elastic encasement worked around the arms.  Once I started sewing it all came together.  This project took me a little over an hour to do.  This pattern is a winner.  I am busty so the next top I make I will add 3 inches to the flutter.

First pattern just for me. VOGUE 8790

I've made a few garments without a pattern.  Some items I have not worn.  I think I've made about 25 items.  This first pattern for myself  is a beautiful blouse.  I love wrap blouses and wrap dresses.  I think I look good in them.  Wait... I make them look good. :-).

Blue is my favorite color.
Fabric used: Rayon Spandex
I selected this blouse because it's labeled very easy.  So I am a newbie but this pattern was not very easy.  I'm not complaining, I do love a challenge.

I love this blouse so much that I'm making one with 3/4 sleeves for my mom with a yellow Rayon Spandex.

The finished garment was very long so I cut off 2.5 inches.

I'm going to wear this blouse on Sunday.  I will upload a picture then.
