Simplicity and New Look Summer Patterns

There's definitely a few Patterns that I would like to make.  These patterns have a lot of options for  beginners.  There's also Patterns designed for pattern hacking which makes this seasons' patterns kind of fun.  Becoming a sewist is an adventure that allows you to use your creativity in order to create great garments.  So seeing patterns that are designed for Hacking is just opening that door to be as creative as you want to tbe and not stay in the box.  I'm excited to see what these sewing patterns will produce! The Top pattern on my list:

Mimi G's Simplicity 8394

Animal Print

Animal prints, I don't have any garments in an animal print.  Maybe I think it will bring out the animal in me. Lol!

Anyone who has kids has most likely heard of Austin and Ally on the Disney channel.  Ally's best friend Trish was obsessed with animal print.

Trish is in the dress on the right

Here she is again on the right

There's an episode where Dez, Austin's best friend wore almost $1000 worth of animal print apparel.
------------------------------------------------------->

It wasn't until that episode that I realized there was major difference in animal prints.  I guess I assumed since most animal prints are brown that they are all cheetah print.  Man, am I wrong!  So I figured I would show lists the different animal prints.

Leopard
Premier Prints Leopard Brown/Natural
Safari Leopard
Timeless Treasures Safari Leopard Skin Leopard
Jaguar
Call of the Wild Jaguar Brown
Cow
Velboa Faux Fur Cow Black/White
Zebra
Velboa Faux Fur Zebra Black/Brown
Giraffe
Minky Cuddle Baby Giraffe Cappuccino
Snake
Telio Dragon Snake Sweater Knit Black/Gold
Cheetah
P. Kaufmann Cheetah Earth Fabric
This is just a few of the different animal prints.  They come in different colors and shades.

Looking at the different prints has motivated me to try at list one animal print garment.

Striped Handkerchief Dress

Who does not love a handkerchief hem dress?  I am absolutely in love with them!!!  They add such a beautiful illusion to the hem.  This dress was inspired by a RTW I saw in Nordstrom's.  Unfortunately, they did not have anymore dresses in my daughter's size.  That's the great part about sewing!

When I started this project I studied a handkerchief skirt. It didn't take long to figure out how to achieve the handkerchief hem. I traced this pattern by using a straight dress.

At the waistline, I added 2 large squares, one square on each side.

My daughter loves to twirl in dresses.

Stripes:

Back View

Matching the stripes was easy...at first. Yes, I said it--EASY!  I pinned the front and back pieces together matching the stripes.  When I started to sew my pieces on my machine everything went haywire. I was working with a jersey knit which stretches. To keep the stripes aligned I moved very slowly.

First time:
  • Sewing a dress using a RTW garment as the pattern piece
  • Sewing a handkerchief dress
  • Making my own bias tape
  • Working With stripes

I would like to make this dress again with a fuller skirt.  Kind of like this:
If you know how I can achieve this look please leave comments in the field box below.

Vogue Summer Pattern Release

The "Big 4" released some beautiful patterns this spring.   BUT.....Vogue has just released their Summer Patterns and they are hot!  Have you seen their release?  If you're planning to slay this summer this is how you do it!!!  I want to make every pattern from this collection but I know that's not realistic.

Vogue 1542
Super cute.   Someone get engaged and invite me to your wedding.  I need an event to wear this dress to.

Vogue 1545
For a plus size Diva like myself the front bodice is cut too low.   However, with some modifications this dress might make it to my closet.
Vogue 1546
I love everything about this dress, especially the back band.
Vogue 1548
I love this dress but I wouldn't wear it.  Don't hold me to that. Anything is possible.

Vogue 1550
This would be beautiful in a yellow or white linen.  This is not my style but my mom would love this pattern.
Vogue 9257
Can I say YESSSSS!  Need I say more.

Vogue 9259
This jumper screams summer!  This will be a popular make in the sewing world. Mark my words.

Vogue 9263
I've made a purse before but nothing this detailed.  I would like to try my hand at this.

I can't wait to see what the other Commercial companies have up their sleeves.

April Sewing Plan

It's April!

Happy April Fools day!  I hope you're not out there being a prankster.

I'm ready for this month because I am going on vacation!!!!  Woohoo!  I'm not going to get much sewing done this month. I am going to Plan 4 projects.

I will definitely make a dress this month.  I'm not sure which pattern. Here's my options:
McCall 6884, McCall 7531, or Simplicity Mimi G  8334

Please let me know which dress I should make.  Comment below or shoot me an email.

I definitely will be making a dress for my 6 year. She is persistent!  I might start with her dress first.
For her I've narrowed it down to: New Look 6442 or Simplicity 8351.

I have a jumper or romper planned for my 3 year old.

My last item will be from my January Sewing Plan.  I only have two items left.

If I have enough time I want to make Simplicity 8354 for the 11 year old daughter.  I think she would look great in both views.

And New Look 6501 for my 9 month old.

Let's see what happens.

Happy Sewing!
